Weather Delays and Closure Policy
The following guidelines will be used for school weather delays and closings.

  • Highland View Academy will follow the same schedule as Washington County Schools regarding school closings and delays.  Washington County announces closings and delays on WHAG (NBC 25) TV and WCRH (90.5 FM) Radio.  Announcements are also posted on www.schoolsout.com and on www.nbc25.com.

  • HVA will post a message on the phone system voice mail.  Please call the school at (301) 739-8480 and dial extension 221 or 0.  An announcement will also be placed on our website at www.highlandviewacademy.com.  Please do not call the staff to inquire about closings, but refer to the information above.

  • If a school closing is announced, community students should not come to the HVA campus.  Supervision will be provided for dormitory students only.  If there is a need or desire for a community student to be on campus, permission must be obtained from a dean and a school administrator.

  • If there is a one-hour delay announced, students should report to school at 8:38 for their second period class.  If a two hour delay is announced, students should report at 10:06 a.m.

  • If school is in session but a need arises for an early dismissal, a recording will be placed on the school switchboard and will be posted on the school web site.  Students will also be given access to phones to call parents regarding the early dismissal.

  • As has been the practice in the past, if school is in session but a parent believes it is unsafe for their child to travel to school, a note may be sent from the parent excusing the absence following the regular attendance policy.  We trust that parents will not allow their children to take advantage of this policy.
